About Household Budget Tracker
A household budget that survives contact with a real month. You set category budgets once, log spending as it happens, and the sheet shows where you stand against plan without needing to be rebuilt each month. It handles the things that break simpler trackers: irregular income, annual bills that land in one month, and shared expenses split between people.
What’s included
- Monthly budget planner with editable spending categories
- Expense log with running totals against each category budget
- Annual overview showing every month side by side
- Sinking-fund tables for annual and irregular bills
- Debt payoff tracker comparing snowball and avalanche ordering
- Savings goals with progress bars
- Charts that update automatically as you log
Frequently asked questions
Does it link to my bank account?
No, and that is deliberate. Nothing leaves your computer and no account credentials are involved. The trade-off is that you enter transactions yourself.
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the XLSX to Google Drive and open with Sheets. All formulas and charts carry over; some conditional formatting looks slightly different.
Can I change the categories?
Yes. Categories are a list you edit, and the budget, log and charts all read from it, so a rename or addition flows everywhere automatically.
How do I handle a shared household?
The expense log has a payer column and a summary showing who paid what, so splitting or settling up at month end is a lookup rather than an argument.
